Rooted 242, located in downtown Moberly, Missouri is a nonprofit organization committed to creating community within the Moberly area. The goal of Rooted 242 is to provide resources and space for authentic relationships geared toward families who have been affected by the foster care system and older youth aging out of foster care.
There will be a cafe, meeting and training space, a family support room for supervised visitation, and independent living apartments. These spaces are designed to be conducive to relationships, rehabilitation, and trainings for the betterment of our youth. We will work alongside already established services so that we can enhance the work that they are already accomplishing.
The Cafe – a delicious breakfast and lunch spot – is simply a small town local eatery. BUT, it is so much more! All of the funds that are acquired through the cafe will be poured back into the older youth of the community through programming, mentorship, and independent living. It is a great spot to grab a fantastic meal and stay a while, gather with friends, and deepen your ties with one another.
Creating a network and a community is vital in the health of our youth. It has been said more than once that it takes a village to raise children, it also takes the RIGHT village, one that is supportive of the issues that children are presented with in today’s society. Community has been lost, and without community loneliness and hopeless have taken over. Rooted 242 is dedicated to creating a village in our community.
Come and enjoy a warm, freshly baked bagel or breakfast sandwich aside a delicious cup of coffee. Or stop in for a cup of local tea alongside soup, salad or a panini.
All of our proceeds will go back into the older youth and families of the Moberly Area!
This space is designed to be used in multiple ways. It is available for rent for special occasions but is set up to hold professional meetings and classes.
This space will be utilized for classes to equip young adults and parents with skills for creating stable families.
The purpose of mentoring is to connect an individual who has a lot of knowledge and experience with someone who hasn’t gained the same knowledge or experience—yet.
As we pair young adults with a mentor, they will learn and gain perspective from their mentor. They will also gain a community who loves on them, roots for them, and can help them reach the goals that they are striving for.
Upstairs from the cafe, there will be studio apartments for youth aging out of the foster care system. These apartments will be funded in part by the community, but also from vouchers from local agencies who will partner with Rooted 242. This will give us a unique opportunity to be able to provide living space with drastically reduced rent and therefore help young adults learn how to take care of themselves.
Through the cafe, young adults and teens will have an opportunity to work alongside bakers, cooks, servers, and cleaning crews in order to learn the necessary skills it takes to run a business and do a job well.
One way in which we would like to serve the Moberly area community is by providing family support to families who have experienced foster care. Our family support room will be set up for supervised visits in a way that is conducive to rehabilitating the biological family relationship.
Paul C. Collins –
I will be visiting for lunch on October 28 as guests of Mark and Debbie Lowery. They say you have begun a great ministry. After viewing your website I concur! I grew up in Moberly but have been away for many years, with most of those years spent in Springfield (where I currently live).
